So that the pupil is as comfortable as possible, it will be their instructors car that will be used for the mock test.
We wear a Hi-Viz jacket so that they get used to not feeling intimidated on the actual test day when an examiner may come out wearing one and it's the first time someone wearing a Hi-viz jacket has approached them during their lessons time.
It's amazing how just this little thing can throw a pupil sideways with anxiety.
We will the introduce ourselves and ask to see the pupils provisional licence and check validity.
Offer our DL25 sheet to them to read and sign the insurance and residency declarations.
We'll check their eyesight before commencement of the mock. Obviously if this does not pass, the mock test will cease there and then.
If the eyesight test is ok, the test will continue and we will explain what will happen over the next 38-40 minutes.
The instructor on the pupils request is permitted in the rear of the car during the mock but must conduct themselves in the same manner as they would on a real test and on the pupils request the instructor can remain in the car for the feedback at the end of the mock test.
On a random basis we will cover various legitimate test routes, and use either a Sat-Nav or direction road signs for the independent section and supply verbal instructions for the remainder of the mock.
1 Reverse manoeuvre will be requested and possibly an emergency stop.
At the end of the test a full feedback will be supplied as well as the DL25 sheet.
Full feedback may also include recommendations on how to improve certain driving techniques if the instructor is happy for this to happen.
Obviously we do not want to tread on an instructors teaching techniques, but also appreciate there are a lot of instructors who are still very new to the industry and may appreciate the feedback.
The complete session is expected to last 60 minutes from start to finish.
